About the Studio

Mara Kostadinova. 15 years.

Mara grew up in Sofia, Bulgaria, where she trained as a gymnast before discovering pilates in her early twenties. She completed her certification through BASI Pilates - one of the most rigorous programs in the method - and spent a decade teaching in studios across Europe and New York before opening Studio Mara in Brooklyn in 2017.

She teaches every class herself. There are no guest instructors, no substitute teachers. If Mara isn't available, the class doesn't run. That's a deliberate choice - and the reason her students stay.

The studio is small and stays that way. Six reformers, a clean mat room, and a schedule that keeps classes intimate enough to actually teach.

What happens when
instruction is consistent.

I've been running marathons for eight years and always had tight hip flexors and lower back problems. Three months with Mara and I PR'd my last race. I didn't expect pilates to be the thing. It was.

I came in after a herniated disc. My PT recommended pilates but warned me to be careful. Mara was the first instructor who actually understood what that meant - she modified everything without making me feel limited. A year later I'm stronger than before the injury.

Rosa T.
Post-injury recovery, Cobble Hill

I tried five studios before this one. I kept leaving after a few weeks - either the classes were too crowded, or the instruction felt generic. Mara's studio is different. She actually watches you. She sees things. I've been coming every week for two years.
